What I've learnt (23)

The past 22 tasks have been a long and interesting learning experience. I now have a better idea of what the internet is/can be used for. I now realise the possible applications for the internet for the library and it is good that I have had exposure to modern technology.

Encore and the new Ebscohost 2.0 Interface (18)

Traditionally libraries have been single ended. That is users can only access library material. However, in today's world, such applications as Web 2.0 allows users to more efficiently access the materials they require with ease, as computers now not only connect users to what they need, but also give them the ability to have an input as well.

How to use MSN Messenger to improve library operations

MSN Messenger is a program used for real time messaging. It is a free application that is run through the internet. Students, teachers and those external to VU are able to contact library staff though this facility. This is time saving as messages are instant unlike emails.

Wiki is an interesting tool for online knowlege and sharing. I was able to view pictures of other peoples pets as well as share mine with everyone else.

Delicious (17)

I signed up for delicious account and added some book marks. It's good being able to save book marks in delicious rather then on the computer.
It's amazing what book marks are save on delicious. I take a look at others and found some good websites.

My space and Facebook (12)

I took a look at my space and face book and set up a face book account. I found some of my work colleagues and invited them then as friends. I also added the JSTORE appplication to my face book home page.
I think face book and my space are good ways for libraries to reach out to young people although they may feel like we are invading their space.

Library Blogs (11)

Today I subscribed to an Australian library blog, libraries interact and I also added a widget for it to blog.

Digg.com (10)

I added feed from digg.com to my google reader. There were too many feeds and the news was about topic that I am not interested in. I prefered to read the news paper.

Igoogle (16)

I had already started to play with my Igoogle page. I changed the theme of it so it looked very different. Today I added many gadgets to the page, the map and book search, Facebook, google docs and wikipedia. It was very easy to add the gadgets, but I probably won't use them that much. But I expect that some of our students would like them very much.

Google book search and Google scholar search (15)

Today I look at google book search and found the book that I want to look at.
I was able to look inside the book and see several pages. It's was easy to use.

I also use Scholar to search for article that mention victoria university. There was close to 1 million. Using scholar I found only academic works.

Google reader (10)

I set up google reader and added some feeds to some the 23 things blog. I find it 's easy to do it with a little help. It is a good way to keep up with what others are writing on their blogs. I probably won't use it at home.

ImageChef (7)

I have fun playing with imageChef and I did put some words for my pink flowers, I will have an other stamp haha....

watching a good comedy (20)

I was enjoying watching this good video while the other kids are rolling their eyes because the internet was really slow, yes I was watching it at home.

Orchids garden (8)

I like to know how to grow orchids, because they are beautiful and last 2 to 3 weeks in the vase.

Google Docs (14)

Google Docs is similar to an online version of Microsoft Office. It has the ability to save online documents is a unique function to Google Docs. However, it's functionality is not as advanced as Microsoft Office. Therefore it does not pose much of a threat to major retail office suites (such as Microsoft Office).

I can see my friend 's house and see her favorite hand bag that she wants to buy "too expensive" .
